On April 4, a meeting took place in the city of Samarkand between Azada Huseynova, Deputy Chairperson of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting the two sides held extensive discussions on strengthening the existing tourism ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, opportunities for collaboration within international organizations, and potential joint initiatives along the Silk Road.
As part of the meeting a memorandum of cooperation in the field of tourism was signed between Azerbaijan Tourism Board and Uzbekistan’s National PR Center.
The memorandum was signed by Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of Azerbaijan Tourism Board, and Dilshod Murodullaev, Director of Uzbekistan’s National PR Center.
The document outlines cooperation aimed at boosting tourist flows under the joint “Silk Road Tours” initiative, strengthening positions in Central European and other international markets, developing joint tourism products, and organizing promotional events and B2B meetings.
As part of the visit Azada Huseynova also met with Dilshod Narzikulov, Director of the UN Tourism Academy located in Samarkand. The meeting emphasized the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in the field of tourism education. At the conclusion of the meeting, a familiarization tour was organized to the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.
An agreement was also reached to carry out joint research within the framework of collaboration with the Silk Road Research Center operating under the university, focusing on developing the Silk Road as a tourism product.
